At Bold City Ultra Clean, we believe in helping homeowners not just clean their systems — but understand them. This page is here to help you learn how to protect your tankless water heater and avoid common issues caused by Florida’s environment.
The Problem with Florida’s Hard Water
Florida’s water is naturally high in minerals like calcium and magnesium — also known as hard water. Over time, this causes scale buildup inside your tankless water heater, which can lead to:
Reduced water pressure
Higher energy bills
Slower hot water delivery
Shortened equipment lifespan
Costly repairs if left unaddressed
Routine cleanings are key to removing that buildup and keeping your system efficient and protected.
Cycling Valves for Weather Conditions
Florida may not have harsh winters, but temperature swings and occasional cold snaps can still impact your system — especially if it’s in a garage or mounted outside.
Here’s what to do:
Know your valves: Most tankless systems have cold, hot, and gas shut-off valves. Familiarize yourself with their location.
During colder weather:
Don’t shut off water completely unless winterizing — this could lead to freezing.
Insulate exposed pipes and valves with foam or thermal wrap to prevent freezing.
If freezing temperatures are expected, leave a faucet dripping to keep water moving.
In warmer seasons:
Inspect valves and connections for signs of mineral buildup or wear.
Test valve operation to ensure they aren’t stuck or corroded.
Valves Under Your Tankless Water Heater
Most tankless units have a set of three key valves directly beneath the unit:
🔵 Cold Water Inlet Valve – Allows water into the system
🔴 Hot Water Outlet Valve – Sends heated water to your home
🟡 Gas Shutoff Valve – Controls the gas supply
Maintaining these valves is crucial:
Check monthly for signs of rust, dripping, or mineral deposits.
Operate each valve (open/close) a few times a year to ensure they don’t seize up.
During cleaning, we’ll flush the system through these valves — if they’re blocked or failing, it could affect your entire system’s performance.
